Support of one’s “own” nation against other nations, particularly of imperialist nations during inter-imperialist conflicts. Social chauvinism can also manifest as a kind of great nation chauvinism in which one favors the national interests of a great nation exerting national oppression on others.

A particular type of social chauvinism, this forms the basis for fascism. This is most often achieved by the cynical use of a false national unity by the bourgeoisie to win over the proletarians and petit-bourgeoisie with choice concessions.

It is the instigation of a fight before the revolutionary masses are prepared to do battle. It has historically often resulted in the victory of counter-revolutionary forces.
