Call to Order

An Editorial meeting of the Board of Unity–Struggle–Unity was held at 9-5-23 on Teams. It began at 2:45 PM EST and was presided over by J. Kats with the same as secretary.

Reports

A report on printing in Canada was delivered by Cde. Pariah.

Printer has been sent the pdf today. They will send a sample in 11×17 and Cde. pariah will give the go-ahead. They can print as few as 1. Will get a batch of 50 at 70 dollars total. Pariah will pay for the print run. Donation to the press. Got one bookstore willing to carry the paper.

Running minutes

Training program
- J. Kats has been working on the training program. Strunk and White book is good. Journalism book is not necessarily good in its entirety. Will put together a packet for next week.
- Tendency to repeat for our writers, or to use reflexives, or very opaque sentence structure
Skipping serj’s old business until they arrive
Art for Andi
- We need to think of some art for andi to create
- Generic things that we can use over and over again
- Section headings, or ad-like blocks?
- The Write to Us page could be changed up
- Visit our patreon
- Become a distributor
- Write for the Clarion
- Affiliate with USU
- “Propaganda posters” – mimicking the old soviet or chinese style posters that contain USU stuff
- A frame for publishing articles on social media
Efforts to increase recruitment of writers and distributors
- Pariah must harass twitter peers to become distribution agents
- One independent bookstore
- Donut shop
- Pariah has a friend who may want to salt for unions – could be a good distribution point
Test reader role
- Serj has not been able to get test readers
- No one has been able to commit to the role
- J. Kats suggests pinging the server to see if anyone would do it
Document for analytical points
- Serj: better understanding of what we’re looking for; was concerned that the conversation about sectarianism made it more difficult to work on the “lines” but we talked and Serj has begun the list

NEW BUSINESS:
- Weekly editorial discussion
  - Bulletin: are we good with publishing the bulletin? Pariah is good with it.
  - Undocumented workers – rabbit made edits based on J. Kats’ notes and will give new notes for publication.
  - Rootin’ Tootin’ Astroturfin’ – Serj wanted to check in with addressing the close reading. Digging into the lyrics more might be heady. Pariah will give it another look – hasn’t read it since the additions.
  - Canadian wildfires and book review – Tomorrow per Pariah. Book review probably tonight.
- Pressorg Meeting
  - J. Kats recollection that everyone was most available on sunday nights.
  - J. Kats will announce meeting today to Pressorg, schedule it; we will collectively put together agenda; Serj and Pariah to run Pressorg meeting.
- Mazal’s potential return
  - Executive session beginning at 3:06 PM EST
  - Executive session ended at 3:17 PM EST
- Assign Rachel an article?
  - Strike with the local bookstore?
  - Try to get something for her to write before EOD tomorrow
  - Serj suggests general misrepresentation of labor struggles in the bourgeois media
